Hedonic Adaptation

New York Times Travel Section Foodie Love

With my days a bit heavy of the free time. It has become a Sunday ritual of mine to devour the entire New York Times sunday edition on my kindle. The past two Sunday’s I have been delighted to see two articles featuring my two favorite places. Seperated by a week, the travel section featured an article Seattle Sweet Spots (Click on the respective pictures for links) and the up and coming neighborhood of Woodstock in Cape Town.

Reading about the Columbia City Bakery nearly had me on the next plane back to Seattle. Not really, but the article did trigger all the sweetest nostalgic moments of my former life in Seattle.

Woodstock by the way is where one of our office’s is for our Non-profit work. The picture from above is of the owner of the cafe called the Kitchen. Which has been proclaimed today as the best cafe in the world. The food is truly other worldly, the staff is beautiful, and the music selection on par with John in the Morning. A quick aside on the music. Up to this point I could count on one finger the ammount of indie music in Africa. At the Kitchen they were playing song after song including songs from the new LCD Soundsystem album. But seriously, I could go on about this place forever. The neighborhood itself, while a bit dodgey on it’s edges, features a number of art gallaries and converted industrial buldings to lofts. All of this would make any urban northwesterner feel about as cozy as a steamy hot Americano in a dimly lit cafe on a rainy day.

As a quick update:

I took my test on the 18th – strangest test I have ever taken. I am not sure what that means. Sources of conflicting information on when my next test could be 2 weeks or 3 months. Things that make you go hmmm…

Life has been uneventiful and mared by an internet blackout at my residence. Therefore the lack of posting. I have been doing some hiking, visited Robyn Island (Nelson Mandela’s prison for 18 years) and doing A LOT of reflecting. All to be posted on in the near future.
